¡Simplemente Mariachi! is the only standards-based, beginning method series for teaching the vibrant music of the mariachi tradition. Since most states require music curricula to be based upon a standards-based framework, music educators will find this series to be extremely user-friendly. Each lesson clearly states the skills that students are expected to know and be able to demonstrate. Standards-based, ready-to-print lesson plans, including recommendations for student assessment, are conveniently provided via attached disk.
Both the teacher and student editions (Violin, Trumpet, Guitar and Vihuela, and Guitarron) include a disk for guided practice when students are working independently. Students will learn to play and sing a variety of new and standard mariachi songs—all in Spanish. In addition, they will learn about the history and traditions of mariachi through an extensive mariachi history section provided in the appendix. Students who complete Level I will be able to play a variety of mariachi forms in the keys of D Major, G Major, C Major, and F Major.
¡Simplemente Mariachi! was creatively designed to be used in either a homogenous or heterogeneous setting with students playing and improvising on the very first day of class. The method is suitable for first year study with elementary and/or middle school students via pull-out or daily classroom settings. In addition, it easily serves as an entry-level music method at the high school level—a real plus for students who are looking for a new experience who may not have played an instrument previously. Many high school music educators have told us that this method has served as a wonderful way to round out their more traditional course offerings as well as bring additional students into the program
